A handful of agents from Island,REALTORS® took part in the 31st Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, which was held on Saturday, May 16th. The walk was run simultaneously on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii, and all together raised $925,000 for various charities. Since its inception in 1978, the fundraiser has raised more than $21 million.
In 1974, the Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging Association sponsored a “Superwalk” to benefit one major charitable organization. Over the years, the Charity Walk has grown to become one of the largest single day fund-raising events in the State. In 1978, the Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging Association members voted to extend the reach of support offered by the walk’s fund-raising capability, the Visitor Industry Charity Walk is the result of this decision. All of Hawai‘i’s non-profit charities are eligible to benefit.
The participants said the best part of the day was knowing that they contributed to a good cause and that it promoted health and wellness. They welcomed the tasty food and drinks provided by Hawaii hotels and allied organizations along the route and enjoyed the live entertainment and giveaways that took place at the finish.
They plan to participate in the walk next year and encourage everyone to join them.
