Castle & Cooke received long-awaited approval from the state to proceed with the first phase of its Koa Ridge master-planned community in Central Oahu.
The Hawaii Land Use Commission voted 7-1 to approve Castle & Cooke’s application to reclassify 575 acres of agricultural land to build 3,500 homes, a medical mall, schools and commercial centers. Castle & Cooke now must obtain a zoning change from the City and County of Honolulu before the project can proceed.
The commission deferred action on the development’s second phase, which would be built on 192 acres of agricultural land near the Koa Ridge community. That phase, Castle & Cooke Waiawa, would consist of 1,500 homes.
